Dying on your own terms

Jen Turner, right, was facing the last year or two of her life consciously trapped in a body that no longer worked. With no meaningful treatment and zero chance of recovery, the Woodside woman chose to end her life using assisted dying laws in Switzerland. Her husband Dave, above, tells of the ‘absolute relief’ she felt by having an option to die on her own terms.

On a summer evening in 2010, Woodside resident Jen Turner enjoyed a quiet dinner with close friends and family in a small Swiss village overlooking the Alps.
The next morning she travelled to non-profit assisted dying organisation Dignitas in Zürich where she quietly and peacefully ended her life with her husband, Dave, and their son, Nick, by her side.
