A shortfall in rental housing has been fuelled by surging property values and profit-minded investors selling up, driving more people into homelessness and prompting warnings from a local real estate agent and an advocate for affordable housing that the crisis is only getting worse.
According to realestate.com.au there were over 134 properties for sale in Mt Barker and just 12 rental properties available as of Sunday, averaging $450 a week to rent.
