Auslan helps create inclusive school environment

Mt Barker Primary School teacher Kirsten Mooney, middle, with students Sienna Verkuylen, 11, left, and Isabel Baldock, 11, hopes signing Auslan becomes commonplace in the community.

In an effort to create an inclusive school environment, students and teachers at Mt Barker Primary School are using sign language as a key part of learning.
All children at the school undertake at least an hour of Auslan classes each week, despite the school’s deployment of accessibility systems to aid its deaf students.
