CYCLISTS HEAD FOR THE HILLS: Nairne resident Alex Manly is among the cyclists who will compete in the Hills later this month as part of the Festival of Cycling. The event replaces the Tour Down Under’s international race, which has been cancelled because of Covid-19 for the second year in a row. The festival will wind its way through some local towns on January 25, 27 and 28.

Hills council introduces 24/7 cat confinement

The Adelaide Hills Council has become the second in SA to force cat owners to keep their pets confined to their properties at all times under its latest cat by-law.
The council’s new rule, which mandates that cats be confined to their owners properties 24/7 unless the cat is appropriately restrained, came into effect on January 1 this year – more than three years after the council agreed to adopt it in 2018.
A spokesperson from the Dog and Cat Management Board said the only other council in SA whose by-laws mandated full cat containment was the Kangaroo Island Council.
In 2018, the Adelaide Hills Council’s community consultation found that most respondents supported the changes.
