Rain causes cherry pain

Hills cherry growers are counting the cost of last week’s storms, which caused “significant” damage to some cherry varieties.

On Tuesday, November 28, Harben Vale Cherries owner Wayne Altmann, pictured, recorded more than 50mm of rain over a six to eight hour period.

As the cherry harvest picks up steam heading into Christmas, wet weather was the last thing Mr Altmann wanted to see.
